Careers

Ecotone are always willing to hear from professionals who are interested in considering joining our business, working in our beloved Cape York environment and being a part of a team that values the opportunity we have to work on impactful projects.

A Collaborative Team

At Ecotone, we have a team made up of talented professionals whose shared goal is to innovate and employ solutions in remote flora and fauna survey work and provide ecological consulting services to our clients that prioritise quality and integrity.

By recruiting those in emerging environmental careers to those with years of experience, we believe we are fostering a setting where ecologists can work together to enjoy and grow their careers while contributing to work of the highest industry standards.

Supportive Work Conditions and Work-Life Balance

  • A competitive Special Leave (aka Time Off In Lieu; TOIL) policy for full time and part time staff.
  • Flexible working hours and encouragement towards work life balance, supported by rostered full-business Rostered Days Off (RDOs).
Career Growth & Development
  • Internal and external technical training opportunities.
  • Professional development opportunities tailored to your personal goals and strengths.
  • Leadership roles and leadership development.
  • Vacation work/university placement positions – linking early career consultants with our approachable experts.

At Ecotone, we believe that a thriving work culture is the foundation for employee satisfaction.

We achieve employee satisfaction through our values.

Empowerment and Autonomy

We give our team the freedom and trust to make decisions, innovate, and drive meaningful results. Our staff can take on challenges and grow in their roles.  We empower our employees to bring their unique talents to the table and make an impact to the environment and to the betterment of the workplace.

Recognition and Celebration

We want to celebrate big and small successes in our workplace.  Whether it’s completing a complex project or learning a new bird species by call, we endeavour to ensure our team’s hard work and achievements are recognised.  Similarly, “field-fails” like getting the car bogged (which happens to the best of us!), will earn you a placement on our “Bog-board” – a light-hearted way to turn mishaps into team bonding moments.

Growth and Development

We are deeply invested in our team’s professional development.  We encourage continuous learning opportunities and ensure our employees have everything they need to onboard and upskill quickly and grow and succeed.  We’re proud to have a culture of lifelong learning where career advancement is supported, and personal growth is encouraged.

Purpose-driven and Passionate

Our team is united by a shared passion for making a positive impact towards ecological conservation and sustainability in Cape York.  Our commitment to ecological integrity makes coming to work feel more rewarding.

Fun and Engaging

We organise regular team building events, social activities, casual hangouts, camping adventures and epic Christmas parties (think Eliot Falls for a weekend) to build stronger connections and celebrate our achievements together.  Whether it’s casual bird-watching or weekly trivia night, we make time to enjoy each other’s company and strengthen our bonds outside the office.

Community Support and Engagement

Ecotone is a proud sponsor and participant in community events and engagement activities. We have sponsored and contributed to several events in recent years. We are also a member of the Western Cape Chamber of Commerce, provide volunteer snake catching services when we can, provide educational talks at the schools, have spearheaded a response to the recent arrival of the invasive Myna Bird, as well as support a variety of other causes when they arise.

Weipa Lifestyle

Live and Work Where Nature Meets Lifestyle: Discover Weipa with Ecotone.

At Ecotone, we offer more than just a rewarding career — we offer the chance to live in one of Australia’s most beautiful and laid-back locations: Weipa. It’s more than a change of scenery — it’s a chance to reconnect with nature, embrace a relaxed lifestyle, and enjoy real work-life balance, supported by a fulfilling career with Ecotone.

A Playground for Nature Lovers

Weipa is a nature lover’s paradise, surrounded by stringybark forests, Melaleuca swamps, vibrant birdlife, Giant Tree Geckos, and stunning (but swim-free) beaches. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy bushwalking, fishing, boating, 4WD tracks, and wildlife watching—all just minutes from town. It’s also a great base to explore Cape York, including Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range) National Park, Eliot and Twin Falls, and the iconic Tip of Australia—perfect for a long weekend escape.

True Community Feel

Life in Weipa is relaxed and family-friendly, with short commutes, quality schools, parks, sports clubs, and a close-knit community where everyone knows your name.

Rich in Indigenous culture, Weipa sits within lands of 11 Traditional Owner groups who signed the Western Cape Communities Co-Existence Agreement. Locals and visitors can learn more at the Western Cape Community Centre.
